People are encouraged to donate blood that is always needed for "quiet disasters." A 30-year-old gunshot victim will need 80 units of blood to survive and a 25-year-old car accident victim will consume over 100 units of blood in 24 hours. Donors must be 17 years old or older, a minimum of 110 pounds, and in good health.
