--> --> History students garner awards Ashland Daily Tidings Oregon's National History Day state level competition was held at Willamette University last weekend, and 32 Southern Oregon middle and high school students took part. Local students presented historical papers, documentaries, exhibits and live performances which won awards in February at the local-level contest. Some of these local students then went on to gain state level recognition for their efforts. Among those were: Marisa Shorland and Cassandra Williams of Talent Middle School, who earned first place in the Junior Group Exhibit; Nathan Kobinsky and Scott Rowan of South Medford High School, second place for the Senior Group Exhibit; Michi Couch, Elizabeth Niedermeyer and Amber Rametes of Applegate Middle School, second place for the Junior Group Performance; Rachael Jones of Talent Middle School, third place for Junior Historic Paper; Andrea Herman of McLoughlin Middle School, third for Junior Individual Documentary; and Justiss Kallos, Jessica Pittman, and Cindi Staller of Hedrick Middle School, third for Junior Group Exhibit.
