One report will give board members an idea of the capacity at each elementary school compared to various staffing levels, Superintendent Juli Di Chiro said. The figures will show board members which schools are near capacity. They requested this material as data in the decision of the possible closure of Lincoln Elementary. "It's a piece of data they'll be using in February," Di Chiro said. Board members will decide on Feb. 9 if Lincoln will close. Last school year, district officials designated Lincoln as the second school to close in the district if two triggers would hit the next school year - if district enrollment dipped below 1,050, or financial concerns warrant. Neither has occurred at this time. The possibility of Measure 30 failing in early February is another concern for school board members and district officials. School districts statewide would lose $400 million in their share of taxes if the measure fails. It's still an unknown how it would play a role in the possible closure of Lincoln. The school district closed Briscoe Elementary in June. Another report will show board members the savings the district received from the closure of Briscoe, Di Chiro said. The report will also discuss the amount of money the district has received leasing 50 percent of the building to the Migrant Head Start program. The board will also hear about a district proposal for a new kindergarten through 5th grade math curriculum at all elementary schools in the district. The new book materials will allow for a smooth transition when students reach the middle school levels, having learned from the same materials, district officials said. Materials will be purchased with the use of Ashland School Funds and general textbooks adoption funds.
