SOU's McGrath sets the pace LA GRANDE - Under cold, rainy skies, the Cascade Collegiate Conference Multi-Event Championships completed its first day of competition on the Eastern Oregon University campus. With 2,278 points, Southern Oregon's Kendra McGrath (soph., Portland) leads the women's heptathlon event over teammate Megan Heuberger. McGrath, who has led the heptathlon from the start, has finished no lower than fourth in any of the first four events to maintain her lead after day one. McGrath won the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 16.18 seconds; 1.5 seconds ahead of the second place finisher. In the decathlon, Eastern Oregon's Josh Allen (soph., Yerington, Nev.) is leading Oregon Tech's Nick Bakke by just 65 points after five events. Allen won the long jump and 400-meter dash, with Cascade's T.J. Samuelu winning the 100 and the high jump events. Bakke won the shot put by a wide margin to keep close to both Samuelu and Allen. The CCC Multi-Event Championships concluded today at Eastern Oregon University with the men's 110-meter hurdles beginning at 10 a.m. and the women's long jump starting at 10:30 am. AHS Girls Golf At Grants Pass, Roseburg's Melissa Carl earned medalist honors, but North Medford ran away with the team victory in an all-Southern Oregon Conference meet Monday. Carl shot an 82, one stroke better than Ashland's Stephanie Johns. The Black Tornado finished with a 382, while Grants Pass took second at 412. Ashland settled for fifth, shooting a combined 457. Johns shot a 43 on the front nine and a 40 on the back to lead Ashland. Other Grizzly golfers contributing were: Kelly Thompson (50-48-98), Lauren Dow (66-63-129) and Kacie Kubil (72-75-147).
