Twenty local artists and 30 students from Robert Kuhn's art classes have hand painted 50 small school chairs in the style and themes of various children's stories from Dr. Seuss and traditional tales. These chairs are being displayed at 15 AGA galleries throughout Ashland until 8 p.m. on First Friday. At that time, there will be a live auction of 25 of the decorated chairs at Mobius Productions, 281 Fourth Street, across the street from Gallery DeForest. The remaining 25 chairs will be displayed at the 15 galleries until March 12 when they will go to the highest bidder through a silent auction. As an additional element of the project, poetry and art by 25 Ashland Middle School students will be exhibited at Gallery DeForest, Friday through the March 15. Gallery owner Cathy DeForest and David Bjurstrom of David Bjurstrom Studio & Gallery are going into Libre Cory's classroom to assist students in creating art to go along with their original poetry. Having found school budgets limited for art and literary programs in the schools, DeForest was inspired to create this benefit as a way of bringing these needs into focus. DeForest was welcomed by Ashland Middle School teachers, Libre Cory and Robert Kuhn and have collaborated with them to create this art and literary exhibition. Galleries participating in the event include Art & Soul, Bead Studio, David Bjurstrom Studio & Gallery, Due Madri Heirloom Quilts, Gallerie Karon, Gallery DeForest, Hanson Howard Gallery, Illahe Design Gallery, JEGA Gallery, The Living Gallery, Mistwood Studio Gallery, Nuwandart, Pelton House B&B, SacredNudes Gallery and 369 Up. This event also coincides with the Ashland Gallery Association's Student Art Show. Ashland High School students will be showing selected work in AGA member galleries for the month of March with the openings on First Friday.
