PUBLIC HEALTH Ashland Creek water has high bacteria levels People should not contact creek waters, Parks & Rec Department warns Comment By Local report DailyTidings.com By Local report Posted May. 12, 2016 at 7:37 PM Updated May 12, 2016 at 8:15 PM By Local report Posted May. 12, 2016 at 7:37 PM Updated May 12, 2016 at 8:15 PM » Social News Don't go in the water. Due to high bacteria levels in Ashland Creek, the city of Ashland announced Thursday, people should not wade, swim or bathe in the creek, which flows through Lithia Park and town on its way to flow into Bear Creek. Bacteria and parasites are present in every open body of water at all times, the city noted in its announcement. Currently, there is an elevated level of E. coli bacteria and it is strongly recommended that no one contact the water in Ashland Creek, including the reservoir near the south end of Lithia Park. It is likely that Ashland Creek and the reservoir will remain closed for the remainder of the spring and into the summer months, or until the rainy season begins. For more information, call the Ashland Parks and Recreation Commission at 541-488-5340 or the Jackson County Health Department at 541-774-8206. Ashland Parks & Recreation will continue to re-evaluate water quality and lift the ban, if possible, later in the season.
