With the win, Ashland finished 6-8 and in fifth place in the final Southern Oregon Conference standings, one game behind Crater. The Grizzlies and Pelicans were tied 2-2 through regulation, with KU netting two goals in the final 12 minutes — both by Ali Casey. In overtime, the Pels took an early lead, but Katie Cowger’s corner kick set up Tess Golling for a header with three minutes left to knot the score again at 3-3 and force a shootout. Both teams were successful on four shots before it went into sudden death. Cowger had given the Grizzlies a 1-0 lead in the 18th minute off an assist from Molly MacGraw. Ashland’s other score, in the 50th minute, was by Stokes off a free kick by Hannah Sohl. Ashland’s subpar start to the season and inability to score in clutch situations probably cost the team a playoff berth. The Grizzlies lost four straight early on to fall to 1-4 in league play and were nipped 1-0 three times. Prep Volleyball At Eagle Point, Eagle Point gave top-ranked Ashland all it could handle before the Grizzlies triumphed, 21-25, 25-16, 25-18, 22-25, 15-6, on Tuesday. Ashland got 23 kills each from Jessica Walters and Maddison Thivierge. Eagle Point (5-8 SOC) was led by Beth Logan, who had 15 kills. The Grizzlies (24-1, 13-0 SOC) are one win away from notching their second perfect SOC season in four years.
