Individually, committee members ordered the facility needs, and a ranked list of those projects was presented at the Wednesday evening bond committee meeting. Prioritizing the needed repairs and upgrades takes the committee one step closer to selecting the projects supported by a general obligation bond the school district will float in the November election. Next Wednesday, committee members will present two bond packages to the committee. The packages will include the repairs and upgrades targeted with the bond and the dollar amount necessary to complete those projects. “I just want you to say, ‘OK, one idea for the bond option is ...’” said Renee Kroupa, a senior associate with Dull, Olson, Weekes Architects Inc. DOWA produced the facilities study the committee is now using to determine the bond projects. Repairs and upgrades that received significant support when ranked by committee members included fixing the bus ramp and parking situation at Bellview Elementary School, replacing water pipes at Helman and Walker elementary schools, meeting the standards set by the Americans with Disabilities Act at all district educational facilities, repairing the roof at Willow Wind Community Learning Center, demolishing the chimney at Bellview, and replacing the roofs at Ashland Middle School and Willow Wind. Most committee members felt they could not prioritize projects at Ashland High School until the high school master planning process has been completed. Ogden Roemer Wilkerson Architects started the master planning process this month. The next meeting of the bond committee is scheduled for Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. in the Ashland Middle School library. Agenda topics include reviewing the bond options identified by each group and a presentation about green schools. The committee will make recommendations on the bond funding priorities and the value of the bond to the school board in late spring. For more information, go to bond.projecta.com.
