The meeting will be held at 7 p.m. in the city council chambers, 1185 E. Main St. What contract information the board will have to review remains to be seen. Board members have last met in executive session to work with Dori Brattain, their lawyer, on Feb. 23. Since then, contract negotiations have been handled by Brattain and Di Chiro’s lawyer, according to board members. Di Chiro’s three-year, $105,000 contract expires June 30. In August, Di Chiro had asked the board to complete negotiations by the end of January. The board never agreed to a Jan. 31 deadline, although it has been operating under the belief that if a new contract is not signed by March 14, Di Chiro’s current contract will roll over for another year. The superintendent attempted to resign her post as chief executive officer of the school district during a board executive in February. The board refused to accept Di Chiro’s resignation and she reversed her decision when the board made commitments to improve their relationship. Legal counsel on each side has been negotiating the agreement since late November and, on Monday night, the board will consider allocating an additional $2,000 to cover attorney’s fees related to contract negotiations. In November, the board OK’d spending $2,000 on Brattain’s services. The school board is also expected to approve the Ashland High School Master Plan on Monday. The plan, completed by Ogden Roemer Wilkerson Architects, recommends replacing all AHS buildings except the theater/student commons facility. That building was constructed less than 10 years ago with funding from the 1996 school bond. The new campus would be designed for 1,000 students and be 215,000-square feet. The master plan outlines a four-phase reconstruction of the high school. The first two phases could be completed simultaneously or in reverse and the final phase is optional. That phase expands the campus to accommodate 1,300 students, should enrollment grow in the future. School board members also plan to revisit the question of herbicide use on school grounds and discuss long-term planning for the district’s elementary schools.
