--> --> Talent taps McKelvage as interim administrator By Maggie McGehee Ashland Daily Tidings Talent officials today named Mike McKelvage as interim city administrator. McKelvage will start work Monday to become the city's seventh administrator in 11 years. The appointment comes after City Administrator Kelly Madding's decision last month to take a position as director of Jackson County's new economic and special development department. City officials plan to conduct a search to find a permanent replacement. Earlier this month, the Talent City Council called an executive session and interviewed four candidates for the interim position. Among the candidates, McKelvage was the most suited for Talent's needs, according to City Council President Lisa Shapiro. "He was the most well-rounded and the most experienced," Shapiro said. "He has a lot of administrative and land use experience, which is what we need. "We felt he is the most suited for the job. We are glad to have him," she said. No other information on McKelvage was immediately available today. Madding has worked with the City of Talent since March 2000. In that time she also was executive director of Talent's Urban Renewal Agency and started the city's first urban renewal project in four years with a street reconstruction project. As part of her new job, Madding will be responsible for directing the economic and special development of the county, in addition to being responsible for the county's role in regional economic development, solid waste and natural resources and environmental issues.
