--> --> Click here for things to do ... · ASHLAND CITY BAND CONCERT will take place beginning with pre-concert entertainment at 6:40 p.m. and the Ashland City Band at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the Butler Bandshell in Lithia Park. The band will perform every Thursday evening through August 9 and a patriotic concert will be presented at noon on July 4. The pre-concert group this Thursday is a Dixieland band. The concerts are free and open to the public. For information, call 772-8862. · POEMS BEING SOUGHT BY ASHLAND AREA POETS for a poetry contest sponsored by Celestial Arts in Talent. A $1,000 grand prize is offered and $50,000 will be awarded during the coming year. Beginners and those who have never entered a competition before are welcome. Entrants may send one poem of 21 lines or less to: Celestial Arts, P.O. Box 1140, Talent, Ore. 97540 or enter online at www.freecontest.com . Entrants' names and addresses must be on the page with their poem. The deadline for entering is June 25. A winner's list will be sent to all entrants. Demonstrations and hands-on activities will include farm chores, gardening and rug-hooking. A slide program, "Women of Hanley Farm," will be presented at 2 p.m. Friday. Cost is $3-5. Participants may observe seasonal constellations; hear astronomy facts and folklore about heavenly bodies in the summer sky. Cost is $2-3.
