Poll: Voters split on police, protesters Internet voters are evenly split on the question of how to handle protesters who block public streets in Ashland, a Tidings poll shows. This week, 588 people logged on to www.dailytidings.com to answer the question: "Protesters have clogged rights-of-way in recent rallies. How should the police deal with them?" A slight majority of the poll voters said police should honor the protests, but a significant percentage said the demonstrators should be arrested. One hundred sixty-seven people or 28 percent said "traffic should be re-routed as best they can," while 144 people or 24 percent said cops should "stay out of the way and let them march." Two hundred seventy-seven people or 47 percent said "arrest them, they're a nuisance and a hazard." This week's poll question, posted Saturday is: "How long will the war in Iraq last?" The Tidings' weekly online poll is an unscientific measurement of public opinion and only reflects the views of those who choose to participate. Its sole purpose is to provide greater public input on a variety of issues.
