--> --> Oregon in brief Ex-armored car driver pleads guilty BEND - A former armored car driver faces up to 20 years in federal prison after pleading guilty to stealing about $80,000 from automated teller machines. Anthony Michael Perez, 25, worked for Luzon Security from July 1998 to August 1999, transporting cash to U.S. Bank and Wells Fargo ATMs in central Oregon. In February 1999, both banks began noticing shortages of cash, according to the FBI. Over the next few months, the losses grew until an investigation showed Perez had made several large cash purchases in the Bend area just after the shortages were noticed, the U.S. attorney's office said. In early April 1999, U.S. Bank discovered a loss of more than $20,000. On April 16, Perez purchased a new boat, trailer, equipment and stereo from a Bend dealer and paid for the items in $20 bills. Perez has pleaded guilty to two counts of bank theft. Sentencing is set for Aug. 28 in U.S. District Court in Eugene. Superintendent says he's repaid bills SALEM - State School Superintendent Stan Bunn said Wednesday he has repaid more than $600 for personal long-distance phone calls he made at state expense. Bunn said he was late with the payments, and he was taking the state phone out of his Newberg home, turning in his state-issued cell phone and would use a personal credit card for long-distance calls on state phones. The Oregon Department of Education also said that Deputy Superintendent Kate Dickson last month repaid the agency for personal long-distance calls on her office phone and that Associate Superintendent Joanne Flint reimbursed the agency in April for meals she earlier claimed she had purchased. In most cases, the repayments came days after The Oregonian requested Education Department documents. Records showed Bunn made hundreds of personal long-distance calls on state phones since he took office in January 1999. On Wednesday, the agency reported that Bunn paid the state $197.11 in January 2000 for his personal use of the cell phone for his first 11 months in office. On April 9, Bunn paid the state $317.14 for his personal use of the cell phone from December 1999 through January 2001 and for the state phone in his home from May 1999 through February 2001. Bunn also repaid the state $47.30 for using a rental car on personal business while in Alaska in August 1999. Email your...
