--> --> UO starts to celebrate 125 years of service For the Democrat-Herald EUGENE - The University of Oregon will celebrate its 125th anniversary this year by remembering the ways in which it has made a difference to Oregonians and to the world community. "For 125 years the UO has been developing leaders. Our graduates have become cabinet officers, state supreme court justices, governors, admirals, generals, chief executive officers and mayors," says UO President Dave Frohnmayer. The university will mark the milestone by presenting a series of gifts to the citizens of Oregon. Each of the state's public schools will receive a copy of the second edition of the "Atlas of Oregon," a 320-page volume containing more than 1,000 maps and diagrams on Oregon history, economy, geography, geology, demographics, industry and natural resources. Frohnmayer will present copies of the atlas during a statewide tour. Other anniversary gift projects for the state include special music composed for the 125th anniversary, a documentary film about UO history, public lectures, historical exhibits, a commemorative quilt and a redesign of the "Heart of Campus" intersection at East 13th Avenue and University Street on the UO campus in Eugene. The anniversary celebration, guided by the theme "Pride, Passion, Promise," will begin during the Oct. 18-21 Homecoming weekend and conclude with the Oregon Bach Festival in July 2002. Email your...
