After tonight's final games, the four playoff teams could be decided, or there could be one giant mess. Tonight's games, all at 7, are: Roseburg at South Medford; North Medford at Crater; Ashland at Grants Pass; and Eagle Point at Klamath Union. The easiest race to determine is the one for the SOC title. North Medford and Ashland are tied at 11-2 and split their season series. If North wins and Ashland loses, North is the outright champion. An Ashland win and North loss gives the crown to Ashland. If both schools win or both lose, there will be a playoff Saturday at Ashland High. The Grizzlies would host because of their 2-0 record against third-place Roseburg. Now the messy part. A Roseburg victory locks up third place for the Indians. But a Roseburg loss, along with a victory by Grants Pass and a loss by Crater would force a three- way tie for third between South, Roseburg and Grants Pass for third. The Panthers, because of a 3-1 record in head-to-head competition with the schools involved, would get to choose where they would be placed in a three-team bracket. Games would be Friday and Saturday. Another scenario would exist if Ashland beats Grants Pass and Crater takes out North. That would leave South, Roseburg and Crater tied for third and result in another three-team bracket situation, where the Panthers would once again get their choice of placement. If, however, Roseburg defeats South, Grants Pass downs Ashland and Crater triumphs over North, the Indians would clinch third at 8-6 and Grants Pass would host a playoff Saturday against Crater for fourth. Grants Pass would have fourth all to itself if it wins, Roseburg wins and Crater loses. In the messiest scenario, there could be a four-way tie for fourth. That would occur if Roseburg beats South, there by clinching third; North beats Crater, Ashland beats Grants Pass and Klamath Union beats Eagle Point. A four-team playoff would result Friday and Saturday. Based on head-to-head results, in the first round, Grants Pass would host Klamath, and South and Crater would flip a coin to determine which would host their game. The winners would meet Saturday for the final playoff berth.
