The fire danger level in Ashland decreased to “moderate” (blue) on Monday, Oct. 1. Restrictions have lessened slightly and include: • It’s now OK to use chain saws, brush cutters and other gas power-driven or spark-emitting machinery and to do welding or grinding of metal before 1 p.m. and after 8 p.m. daily. When using these tools, access to fire suppression equipment is required, including a shovel, water source and/or an eight ounce or larger fire extinguisher and a means of calling 911. Restrictions do not apply in green, well-irrigated landscapes clear of flammable vegetation. • The mowing of dead or dried grass with power-driven equipment is not allowed from 1 to 8 p.m. This prohibition does not apply to the mowing of green lawns. • Outdoor debris burning is still prohibited. • Fireworks and sky lanterns are prohibited at all times. • Smoking is only allowed in vehicles on improved roads, in boats on water or in designated areas. • Motor vehicles may only be used on improved roads free of flammable vegetation, except when used for agricultural purposes.
