Third St., Jacksonville. Whipple's "virtual trio" includes his pre-recorded rhythms with added keyboard music. Broadway Phil and The Shouters The Shouters — singer and harmonica player Phil Newton, guitarist Dave Day, drummer David Mathieu, bassist Gary Davis and guitarist Jake Thompson — will play West Coast blues, R&B and roots rock at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 11, at Grizzly Peak Winery, 1600 E. Nevada St., Ashland. Look for original music penned by Newton from the band's albums, along with covers of music by Howlin' Wolf, Wilson Pickett, B.B. Last Comic Standing Five finalists from the Emmy-nominated "Last Comic Standing" will perform at 8 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 12, at the Britt Pavilion, 350 First St., Jacksonville. This performance may not be suitable for children. Steel band Maraval Road will perform at 6 p.m. in Britt's Performance Garden. Ginger Rogers movies Films starring actress and dancer Ginger Rogers will be shown at 2 p.m. every Wednesday through September at the Talent library, 101 Home St. Each show will be preceded by a talk about Rogers — born Virginia Katherine McMath in Independence, Mo., on July 16, 1911 — and the particular film's production. The Sept. 16 feature is "Bachelor Mother" (1939), directed by Garson Kanin and Rogers in a mostly non-dancing and non-singing role, along with David Niven and Charles Coburn. Rogers plays a department store clerk who is mistaken as the mother of an abandoned child. Admission is free. Southern Oregon Skywatchers The amateur astronomy club will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 16, in the North Medford High School Planetarium, 1900 N. Keene Way Drive, Medford. Talks will provide topics of interest, along with looks at the night sky. SOS is affiliated with International Dark Sky Society and the Astronomical League. Admission is free.
