The council meets at 5 p.m. Thursday in the council chambers, 1175 E. Main St. It is currently fairly easy for builders to comply with the city’s conservation measures and secure the density bonus, according to city staff memos to the council. PremierWest earnings surge The third quarter was a profitable one for PremierWest Bancorp as the Medford-based bank holding company saw its earnings jump 44.4 percent to more than $3.503 million, or 21 cents per share. The bottom line for the first three quarters is even more striking. Through Sept. 30, PremierWest chalked up a profit of $9.387 million, a 47.5 percent year-over-year gain and more than the $9.108 million earned during all of 2004. The earnings report hastened PremierWest management to raise their guidance for full-year earnings to top 2004’s net to 35 percent. With demographers predicting 41 percent growth over the next 10 to 15 years for the bank’s Southern Oregon and Northern California geographic zone, PremierWest expects to see more gains. PremierWest has anticipated that growth, both through acquisition and new branches. In 2004, it acquired five Northern California offices when it purchased Mid Valley Bank and added six new offices to its system. This year, PremierWest has opened three branches, including a 3,000-square-foot office in Eagle Point on Tuesday. New branches are scheduled to open in Ashland, Bend, Shady Cove and Anderson, Calif., in 2006. The bank said net interest income increased 27.3 percent over the third quarter of 2004 to $2.640 million.
