'Summerstock' Local theater group to present Bonnie and June Pointer, Connect The Dots, a Southern Oregon public service organization, will present the first annual Summerstock starting at 6:30 p.m., Friday, August 8 at the Grants Pass High School and running through Sunday, August 10. Swing and ska band Cherry Poppin' Daddies will kick off the weekend with a Friday concert, opened by Portland band Ted Dancin' Machine. In the weekend's highlight concert, Bonnie and June Pointer, formerly of The Pointer Sisters, will perform at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, August 9. The sisters plan to play their hits "Fire," "I'm So Excited," "Jump" and "Neutron Dance." Bonnie and June Pointer were chosen for Summerstock because of their history in theater. In the mid-90s, all four of the Pointer sisters toured the world with the musical, "Ain't Misbehavin'." Opening for Bonnie and June Pointer, is a "Godspell" revival concert. The concert will include a performance of all of the musical numbers from "Godspell," by the original cast members of the Connect The Dots production. During the day, Summerstock will feature two stages of entertainment, a laser light show, one-act plays, food, community booths, vendors, art exhibits, tai chi and yoga workshops, a kids section and other free attractions. Local band Amaranth is also scheduled to play a concert free to ticket holders at 6:30 p.m. Saturday. On Sunday the festivities wind down with TalentStock, a talent search competition to designed to strengthen the local acting pool. The final event will be a cultural tribal dance performed by members of the local Native American community. Tickets to Summerstock are $5 for general admission and $3 for children 12 and under. Children 3 and under are free. Tickets to the concerts are sold separately and range from $10 to $35.
