The city’s planning commission granted Britt its hard-fought conditional use permit after 16 months of negotiations between Britt’s Attorney Craig Stone, Jackson County representatives and city officials. McUne characterized the final CUP resolution as “a fair decision we can live with.” Wednesday’s two-hour meeting included public opinion on the proposed plan. Carol Knapp, who lives near the festival grounds, voiced concerns ranging from too much noise to excessive paving. Knapp said Britt has had 15 years to complete formerly promised revision items, and has not done so. “Britt completes the project it wants to complete,” said Knapp. Dennis Ramsden spoke on behalf of the Jacksonville Chamber of Commerce and urged the eight-member commission to “support and meet Britt’s request (to have their CUP granted.)” The CUP allows for an increase in reserved seating, but keeps total capacity at 2,200. Commissioner Howard Johnson urged Britt not to remove lawn seating in order to create a larger reserve section.
