Using a magic circle, five props and their personal talents, two actresses will tell and act the story of Narnia, the White Witch, Aslan and the adventures of Peter, Susan, Edmund and Lucy. The show features Caroline Shaffer, who is in her seventh year as a member of the Oregon Shakespeare Festival’s acting company, as Peter, Mr. Tumnus, Edmund, Mr. Beaver and Aslan. Eve Smyth, an improv artist with The Hamazons who performs with the Second Saturday Players, plays the part of Lucy, the wolf, statues and the White Witch. “The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe” is the premier production for the Sapphire Group, a new children’s theater company established by parents from the Siskiyou School, the local Waldorf program, to increase children’s theater offerings in the Valley and support a scholarship fund for the school. The theater company intends to produce one show a year with professional actors that will act as a fundraiser for the class’ scholarship program. Next year, the group may perform in Grants Pass and Klamath Falls, maybe even Northern California. In the future, the Sapphire Group might also add a second production that involves children, maybe by teaming with another local kids’ theater program. “The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe” plays at Oregon Stage Works, 191 A St., at 2 p.m. and Sunday at 6 p.m. Tickets are $10 for adults, $6 for children and $30 for families.
