Philadelphia restaurant owner featured in video Socially responsible businesses and local efforts to create a healthy economy will be the subject of a presentation and discussion this evening sponsored by Rogue Sustainable Economic Development. Philadelphia restaurant owner Judy Wicks will be featured in a short video presentation at 7 tonight at Headwaters, 84 Fourth Street Ashland and again at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Bean Online, 34 S. Bartlett Street in Medford, at the corner of 8th and Bartlett streets. Wicks combines food and social activism, founding the White Dog Cafe in 1983. The organization has a four-part mission of serving customers, community, employees, and the natural environment. Educational and community-building programs of the Caf�, such as dinner talks, storytelling, and international tours, focus on economic & social justice, peace and non-violence, and the environment. The Caf� sources all produce in season from local organic family farms, and all meat and poultry is humanely raised. All employees make a living wage, and 100 percent of electricity comes from wind power. Ten percent of profits are donated to the White Dog Cafe Foundation, which supports family farms and a sustainable local economy. For more information call 772-4029.
