"Pressure Points" at SOU" An exhibition of contemporary works of regional, national and international artists "Pressure Points," an exhibition that features 54 prints from the collections of Jordan D. Schnitzer and The Jordan & Mina Schnitzer Foundation, will be exhibited from March 7 to April 19, at the Schneider Museum of Art. An opening reception will be held, from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, March 6. Organized by the Hallie Ford Museum of Art at Willamette University and The Art Gym at Marylhurst University, the exhibition surveys major trends in contemporary printmaking. A wide variety of themes are explored in the exhibition, including abstraction, autobiography, pop culture, social commentary, portraits and self-portraits, and words and messages. "Pressure Points" features work in a variety of printmaking media, including aquatint, dry point, etching, lithography, mono print, photogravure, woodcut, and screen print. Included in the exhibition are works by artists such as Mark Bennett, Enrique Chagoya, Tony Fitzpatrick, Jeff Koons, Julian Opie, Kiki Smith and Kara Walker. In addition to the works on display, text panels, annotated labels, a teacher's kit on printmaking built around the exhibition, and a full-color exhibition catalogue with an essay by Elizabeth Bilyeu, art historian and faculty member at Marylhurst University and Portland Community College, accompany the exhibition. The exhibition is currently on a regional tour with stops in Washington, Montana, Oregon and Texas. "Pressure Points" has been made possible by a major grant from The Jordan and Mina Schnitzer Foundation. The principals of the foundation, Jordan and Mina Schnitzer, established their contemporary art exhibition and educational program to exhibit prints in association with institutions to broaden the mix of available art forms, understanding and enjoyment of them, principally among residents in smaller and university communities of the Pacific Northwest. Providing educational opportunities for area artists and residents, in the form of seminars, workshops, artist presentations or special tours, is fundamental to the program. These sessions have attracted well-known print makers to the region to share their expertise as well as feature regionally accomplished artists. The foundation is providing support for local educational outreach during the exhibition, which includes teacher guides, bus transportation money, and free exhibition catalogs.
