Controlled burns to be set this week Crews working with The Ashland Forest Resiliency Stewardship Project start a controlled underburn in the Ashland watershed. [Daily Tidings file photo] Monday Mar 27, 2017 at 8:40 PM Mar 27, 2017 at 8:40 PM Local report The Ashland Forest Resiliency Stewardship Project (AFR) announced Monday it will conduct a controlled burns this week near Lamb Saddle and Toothpick Trails as conditions permit. Existing closure remains in effect; no new trails will be closed due to burning. A burn map and readings on Ashland's air quality index will be posted at ashlandwatershed.org. Signups for a text alert service about controlled burns and other work in the Ashland watershed is also available on the website, or text WATERSHED to 31279. Information is also available by calling the smoke and wildfire hotline at 541-552-2490 Controlled burns under the right conditions, AFR says, reduce the risk of severe summer wildfires and dense smoke while protecting forests, water supply, the economy and the community. Crews from the Rogue-River Siskiyou National Forest, Grayback Forestry, and Lomakatsi Restoration Project are managing the burn.
