--> --> High praise for Phoenix High theater's latest presentation I have just come home from a remarkable performance of sacred theater at Phoenix High School. Bill Horton's high school cast of "Two Sisters, Two Brothers, and a Journey" collaborated with storyteller Tomas Doty to create a deeply moving and effective telling of local Indian history and myth. It uses an unfamiliar form of theater for most audience members, which was surely new to the cast as well, so to take it on and deliver the interweaving of myth and history with the elegance, conviction and masterful pacing that these young people did, is all the more impressive. They have made beautifully evocative masks that, along with simple and powerfully controlled movements, weave the audience into dreamtime - mythtime - and take us to the world between sunset and sunrise that both was, and is, still. It is an unusual achievement for a cast of any age to do this type of production successfully, but a genuine tour-de-force for a young cast to do it.
