--> --> Oregon in brief Sheridan teen dies after car hits pole WILLAMINA - An 18-year-old Sheridan man was killed after the car he was riding in hit a utility pole, tearing the vehicle nearly in half. Matthew Castellon was sitting in the back seat when the driver lost control off of Oregon 18 on Sunday morning. The driver, 17-year-old Bradley Leno and a passenger, 19-year-old Evan Baller, both of Willamina, were treated for minor injuries. Police suspect alcohol and excessive speed contributed to the crash. Inmate walks away from her work crew FLORENCE - Authorities are looking for a woman who walked away from a prison work crew near Sutton Lake on Monday. Julie K. Birkholz, 40, was serving a sentence at the Shutter Creek Correctional Facility in North Bend for a drug conviction. Birkholz was described as 5 feet 4 inches tall and about 135 pounds with blond hair and green eyes. She was wearing khaki slacks and blouse. Authorities say she uses aliases of Julie Kristina Bayse, Julie Bohanan, Crystal Rodela and Deborah Hendricks. Teen golfer dies at motel KLAMATH FALLS - A junior golfer collapsed and died in her motel room, hours after the first round of the Klamath Basin Junior Golf Tournament. Kaite Davis, 15, of Grants Pass was staying with her mother and another golfer. She got up from bed shortly after 10 p.m. Monday and collapsed, tournament officials said. The girl was rushed to Merle West Medical Center, but doctors were unable to revive her. Hospital spokesman Tom Hottman said a local medical examiner will investigate the cause of death. Davis, who would have been a sophomore at Grants Pass High School, recently qualified to compete in the USGA Junior Golf Championships. She was scheduled to leave for the national tournament Friday. She shot an opening-round 82 on Monday and was tied for fourth. Tournament officials canceled Tuesday's second round. Police arrest suspect in park rape PORTLAND - Police said Tuesday they have arrested a suspect in a Washington Park rape case that has been unsolved for six months. David George Allen, 44, was arraigned Monday on charges of rape, kidnapping, menacing, criminal mischief and possession of explicit child material. Police said Allen is a suspect in the Jan. 15 rape of a woman who was walking through the park on her way home from work. Allen was being held in the Multnomah County Detention Center on $510,000 bail. Associated Press Email your...
