The big movies opening this week are “Focus,” an R crime drama starring Will Smith; “The Lazarus Effect,” a PG-13 thriller starring Olivia Wilde, Mark Duplass, Evan Peters and Sarah Bolger; “Maps to the Stars,” an R drama starring Julianne Moore, Mia Wasikowska, Robert Pattinson and John Cusack; and “Everly,” an R thriller starring Salma Hayek. 2. The NASCAR season started last week, and it was a wild, exciting first race. Don’t miss any of the action this weekend, as the Sprint Cup Series moves to Atlanta. TV coverage begins at 1 p.m. EST Sunday on Fox. 3. The NBA and NHL also are in action, and both seasons are nearing the point where it will become clear who’s a contender and who’s a pretender. Check your local TV listings for broadcast information. 4. Read an E-Book Week starts on Sunday. Don’t have a Kindle or a Nook? No problem! These days you can download an app to your phone or tablet to read an e-book. And you don’t necessarily have to buy books, either: Many classics are free, and your local library might offer an e-book loan service. Call for more information. 5. Friday and Saturday are the annual Texas Cowboy Poetry Gathering. If you’re not in Texas, no worries - you can still write your own cowboy poetry. Get the kids involved and see who can write the most memorable poem. You can make Texas-themed backgrounds for your poems as well.
