--> --> Proposal targets conduct of Ashland student leaders Ashland Daily Tidings The Ashland High School's proposed code of conduct for students who participate in the leadership class holds elected student officers accountable for their actions both on and off school grounds. It states "students involved in leadership are under contract and must refrain from the following both on and off campus: The unlawful possession, use and/or sale of alcohol and other controlled substances (drugs); The arrest and conviction for a felony or misdemeanor. If a school staff member observes an incident, or is on duty during the incident, or is made aware of the problem by an outside agency such as the police or a related agency, the consequences for a first offense are as follows: "For a violation ... the student will continue to participate in classes, but will not represent leadership in public for three months. The penalty will carry over into the next school year ... The student will complete an educational program. Enrollment and consistent attendance is required if the student is to be allowed to participate in activities." The consequences for a second violation include the suspension from all school-sponsored activities for the remainder of the school year. However, if a student is found in possession of drugs or alcohol on school grounds or at school-related events off campus, the school district's drug and alcohol policy will take effect.
