The boys short relay team (Caleb Sutherland, Anthony Smith, Austin Harris and Gabe Ekwall) placed second in the state with a school record time of 46.82. Ekwall also placed third in the 100m with a time of 11.80 and fourth in the 200m at 23.95. Arlo Davis placed third in the 1500m with a time of 4:25.46. Alexis Osorio-Walls placed fourth in the high jump with a jump of 4’ 10” and broke the school record in the 100 hurdles with a time of 17.07. Yuki Sabo-Yamanouchi placed fifth in the 400 with a time of 1:02.11. She also broke the seventh-grade school record in the 200 with a time of 27.48. The Ashland middle boys and girls teams also won the eighth-grade district meet on Saturday, May 7. A few distance runners are considering competing at national competitions and the Junior Olympics, according to Hagelmann. “I’m excited for the high school because they’re going to get a bunch of talented kids,” said Hagelmann.
