Interested community members who can carry a tune and want to advocate for peace through song are invited to join the choir during the month with no auditions. Choir rehearsals run from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursdays beginning Sept. 3 at First United Methodist Church, 175 N. Main St., Ashland. Newcomers should arrive at 6 p.m. on the first night to learn more about the choir.  New members are welcome to attend the first three September rehearsals before deciding whether to join. Members can choose to pay dues monthly or for the full year.  The choir performs a wide range of songs from various cultures, eras, and traditions, from folk and pop to world music. Singers of all ages and skill levels are welcome. Sight-reading ability is helpful but not required.  The Rogue Valley Peace Choir is a nonprofit secular choir featuring about 100 voices. The choir performs regularly at events such as World AIDS Day, Earth Day and Martin Luther King Jr. Day observances. In 2006 the choir traveled to Japan to sing for peace in Hiroshima. During the 2014-15 season, the choir hosted a sold-out event at the Southern Oregon University featuring peace choirs from throughout the Northwest. The choir’s finale Spring Concert at First United Methodist Church drew a standing-room-only audience.  The choir has been featured on Jefferson Public Radio’s Jefferson Exchange program; Southern Oregon Public Television’s Infinite Possibilities, hosted by Jeff Golden; the Ashland Daily Tidings, Sneak Preview, and the Rogue Valley Messenger; and KOBI-TV’s Five-on-5 segment.
