Personal property tax returns should be postmarked by March 1, and returns received after the deadline are subject to a penalty of up to 50 percent of the amount of tax owed. If a personal property return was filed in 2001, the assessor's office recommends furnishing only a listing of additions and deletions of property since January 1, 2001.
