Anthony James Waldron, 20, of the 2200 block of Highway 99 died Thursday from injuries sustained in the Wednesday evening accident on Valley View road, said a nursing supervisor at Rogue Valley Medical Center in Medford. Waldron was walking on South Valley View Road at about 10:20 p.m. when he was struck and thrown about 70 feet by a sedan that then fled. The Jackson County Sheriff's Department found the vehicle Thursday, a mile from the accident scene, Joe Puckett said. The vehicle was a small white sedan with passenger-side damage, including a broken windshield caused by the collision with Waldron, Puckett said Komac Tapp of Ashland saw the accident as he was heading home after visiting his brother when his vehicle broke down on a rural road near Interstate 5. As he walked to get help, he said he was approached by Waldron, who asked for a cigarette. Waldron and his brother joined Tapp, who told him they could share a pack of cigarettes when they reached the gas station. Tapp said Waldron told him he and his brother arrived in Ashland more than a month ago and were camping out near Highway 99. He told Tapp about having a bad week because someone had taken some of his camping equipment. While they were walking, the sedan struck Waldron. "It just came out of nowhere," Tapp recalled, "It missed me by inches. I could hear the collision and felt the whoosh from the car... and he didn't even stop after he hit the guy and his bumper fell off; he just went right through." Tapp said he saw Waldron's body moving "like a rag doll" through the air and coming to rest about 70 feet away.
