--> --> May 25: Raider making records Ashland Daily Tidings OLATHE, Kan. - Southern Oregon University senior thrower Nicole Robertson became the school's first four-year female All-American during Day 2 of the NAIA Track and Field Championships. Robertson placed fourth Friday in the national discus event for the fourth consecutive season with a 143-5 toss, and the Troutdale native joined former wrestler Mike Ritchey and Abram Haddon as the only Raiders to earn All-American status for four years. She has a chance to become the school's only second women's two-event All-American today in the shot put, in which she owns the NAIA's fifth-best season mark. Friday's other Raider performances: Senior Richard Bailey joined Roberston and teammate Justin Bennett (hammer) with All-American distinction this season as a result of a personal-best 53-9 shot put heave, good for fourth place. The Cascade Conference male athlete-of-the-year competes in the discus this afternoon. Two-time All-American sprinter Tiwana Merritt of Valdez, Alaska, moved into the 400-meter finals for the third straight year with a 56.28 fourth-place semifinal showing. The 13-time conference champion, who is shooting for SOU's first-ever NAIA sprint crown, also helped propel the women's 4x100 relay team into the national finals for the first time in program history (48.76, eighth in the semifinals.) Sophomore Nick Dunn of Medford narrowly missed a berth in the 400-meter intermediate hurdles finals by five hundredths of a second with a ninth-place 53.79 in the semifinals. Senior Kena Page of Cave Junction placed 10th in the long jump in her attempt to become a back-to-back top-six finisher, while junior Cass Smith of Central Point was 11th in the pole vault with a 10-11 3/4 effort. Sophomore Megan Heuberger of Yamhill moved into the intermediate hurdles finals based on a 1:04.45, seventh-place semifinals showing. Email your...
