It is noted that investigative Period reflected
herein includes investigation conducted prior to datesaof
Birmingham reports dated 11/30/64 and 10/12/64, described
as references. This was necessitated because of some
investigation conducted prior to submission of Birmingham
report dated 10/12/64 but results thereof not included
therein. It is further noted that Birmingham report of //11/30/64 deait soleiy with additionai invest ation as éizjr d b the Bureau concerning1d investigation concerning primary su pe V
con ucted pr or to submission of that report was not in-
cluded therein; however, it is being reported herein.
Close liaison has been maintained with Jefferson
County Sheriff's Office and Birmingham Police Department,
both of which are cooperative and vitally interested in the

Frequent contacts have been maintained with informants
in this case and the information furnished by them, which is
considered pertinent, is being set forth on the Administrative
pages of this report.

of the Sixteenth Street Baptist Church,
Birmingham, 9/ 15/ 63, in which four Negro
children were killed.
Birmingham being advised any
discussion with the U. S. Attorney at this
time would be premature and when we have
effective witnesses ready and willing to
testify in State and/ or Federal Court, the
matter will be taken up with the Department
for a decision as to whether prosecution will
be by Federal or State authorities.

this tape and tahe the necessary steps to reproduce an
intelligible tape. It would be appreciated if this matter
could be expedited and the tapes returned to the Birmingham
Office for review in order to evaluate the information
contained on the tape, as well as the results or this
installation, for consideration of other installations
of this type in the near future.Birmingham Oftice has a K-3 Variable Speed
however, due to the nature of the tape and
evidence contained thereon, it was not used
to attempt to transcribe the tape in an intelligible

He"° One 5" reel of #290 Scotch brand tape recorded at 15/ 16 inches per
second was submitted by Birmingham with the comment that the recording
speed had not been constant. Birmingham made the request that the
Elecuonics Section review the tape and make an intelligible copy for
evaluation by Birmingham.
Q29 and three 7" reels of tape containing a copy of the periods
on Q29 when the automobile was occupied, are being sent to Birmingham
under separate cover.

Q29 One 5" magnetic recording sound tape
Result of Examination:
Q29 was reviewed and it was determined that the recording speed
had varied from 15/16 inches per second at the beginning of the reel to
approximately 60% of this swed near we end cf the reel.
A copy, on three 7" reels, was made of Q29 with the speed of Q29
constantly being adjusted to make the recorded material intelligible.
Q29 and the copy, consisting of three 7" reels, are being sent to
Birmingham under separate cover.
