ADMINISTRATIVE: r
This is an interim report covering briefly the
location, arrest and removal of subject BROWN to Oregon,the search of the residence, pickup and other areas knownto have been utilized by subjects and-possibly others, theindictment of subject COUPEZ, and other miscellaneous mmaterial of apparent immediate interest in the investigation
and prosecution of this case. -
A report to include results of intensive investigationto locate other subjects, identify associates, catalogue specificevidence and generally supplement information herein is currentlyin preparation to be submitted as early as possible.
Note that,agents from both the San Francisco andPortland Offices personally appeared at Seattle to aid ingleaning leads of immediate moment in attempt to affect theearliest apprehension possible of remaining subjects and toaid in identification of evidence of both Federal and local
crimes. _
Additionally expert fingerprint and document examiners
from FBI Laboratory and Identification Division surveyed theevidence recovered, preliminarily examined documents for hand-writing, dusted certain items for latent prints and furnishedcounsel to investigative agents relative to submission of evidence.
Contact is being maintained with the Bureau relativeto computerizing the list of evidence recovered to assure thatsuch evidence is easily retrievable at a later date and to aid
in the ultimate prosecution of this matter.
Specific_investigative leads are being set out byseparate communications as they develop on a continuing basis
and will not be duplicated in this report.

her possession was Oregon driver's license in name KATHERINE
EMILY WILSON and additional items resulting in search warrant
for residence 13746 Roosevelt Way North, Seattle, where
investigation indicates SHERMAN, BROWN, COQPEZ and possibly
others had been staying. This search and other investigation
located storage locker, meat locker and vehicle in Seattle
area for which search warrants obtained and executed. Subjects
SHERMAN, COUPEZ and possibly others apparently fled residence
based on radio log and note left at residence indicating vehicle
driven by BROWN impounded by King County; that BROWN possibly
picked up and that person finding note should leave for out of ,
town location._ BROWN appeared before U.S. Magistrate, Seattle,
ll/4/77, and remanded custody U.S. Marshal in lieu of $100,000
bail. On ll/14/77, U.S. Magistrate ordered BROWN

Highland Medicalo a shopping p ,Plaza, 1306 N. 175th, and circled to the right until she was
headin back out in a southerly direction. At this point,SAbdriver of the Bureau car, blocked her
exit with the Bureau car and succeeded in stopping her vehicle.
SA- approached BROWN, identified himself, bothorally and with a display of his official credential card as a
Special Agent of the FBI, and asked her to step out of the car
and to provide some identification. She exited her car and
advised she was KATHERINE WILSON. SA"- cued asked he;-O, who
the vehicle was registered to and she replied, PETER JOHNSON.
At this ofnt she was asked to sit in the Bureau car,h-he an eh r ~t at w 1C ime, compare er ingerprin s
with those known fingerprints of RITA DARLENE BROWN.

After comparing her fingerprints SA-
advised that, to the best of his knowledge, the suspect's
-finger rints were identical to those of RITA DARLENE BROWN.SA then removed BROWN from the back seat of the Bureau
and advised she was under arrest for Bank Robbery. She was
searched for weapons, handcuffed and placed back into the
Bureau car.

located a receipt bearing the name KATHERINE WILSON, 13646 Burke
Ave. North, Seattle, Washington, telephone 362-8111.

parked in the garage of that residence, bearing Washington license
GX7486, determined to be registered to KATHERINE E. WILSON, '
13627 19th South, Seattle, Washington. '
It was determined that no one was at the above residence.
Based on the above, and supplemental investigation
conducted, search warrants were obtained for the residence and
pickup located at 13746 Roosevelt Way North, Seattle, for a meat
locker containing a large quantity of'meat Lake City Lockers,
12324 - 31st N.E., Seattle, Washington!, and Jonathan's Self
Service Storage, Storage Area #46, 32615 Pacific Highway South,
Federal Way, Washington, which was rented in the name of
KATHERINE E. WILSON.
Searches at these varied locations resulted in the ,
seizure of a large quantity of evidentiary material including~
bombing paraphanalia, documents, radio logs, photographs, and other
materials indicating that SHERMAN, BROWN, COUPEZ, and possibly
others had been staying at the above residence. A radio log was
located indicating a sustained monitor of SeattleKing County, <
Washington police channels. The final entries, relating to
impoundment of vehicle in which BROWN was arrested. A note on
the door of the residence indicated the vehicle had been impounded;

The Grand Jury also returned indictments on September 28
1977, charging SHERMAN and BROWN with_one count each of possession
of a firearm by a convicted felon, in violation of Title 18, U.S.
Code, Section 922 a! !, 924 a!, and issuing a false statement
in acquisition of a firearm in violation of Title 18, U.S. Code
Appendix, Section 1202 aL l!.
Additionally, a superceding indictment was obtained at
Portland charging JOHN WILLIAM SHERMAN with robbery of Western
Branch, Empire Branch, Coos Bay, Oregon, June 8, 1976, and bench

Result of examination:
It was concluded that the typewriter element, »
Q35, was not used to prepare any of the questioned documents,
Q1, Q and Qc3, previously submitted and Q17 through 233.
It was determined that more than one typewriter
style was used in the preparation of the submitted typewritten
documents. Examples were noted in Q18 and Q23. Because ,
some of the typewriting does not contain sufficient comparable
letters when compared with other documents, and because
of the lack of sufficient identifying defects in the
typewritten letters, it could not be determined whether the
same typewriter or style of typewriter was used for these
items. Some of the photocopies listed separately by Q
numbers are photocopies of other submitted specimens, such
as Q21, 22H, Q27, Q30 and Q33 which are photocopies of
Q20 and Q25, Q28, Q31 and Q3 which are photocopies of
Q22.
It was determined the typewriter element, Q35,
- was not used to prepare the demand note, Q1, previouslv
submitted in the case entitled, "RITA DARLENE BRONN; UHSUB !;
Peoples National Bank, Seattle, Washington, 9/19/77, BR".
at
Ql7 through QBU were photographed and samples
of typewritten impressions were obtained from Q35. Q17
through Q35 are being returned separately with the results
of the requested latent fingerprint examination.

The Seattle Division was not notified of this
bombing matter until October 17, 1977, by the King County
Police Department, Seattle, Washington, inasmuch as it had
not been determined that the incident had been perpetrated
by a revolutionary group. On October l7, 1977, several
agencies received a communique from the George
Bri which t the

of these factors, the initial investigation and
officers who are Redstone Arsenal trained
bomb technicians. i .
Following captioned bombing, all appropriate Seattle
Division sources were contacted, however, no positive information
regarding the George Jackson Brigade was obtained. Copies of _
the George Jackson Brigade communique are contained in this
report.
Seattle Division is currently working the George
Jackson Brigade GJB claimed bombings and bank robberies as
a special investigation. RITA DARLENE BROWN, self acclaimed
member of the GJB, was apprehended by Seattle Agents on
November 4, 1977, and she subsequently pled guilty to charges
of armed bank robbery on January ll, 1978, at Portland,
Oregon. On February 21, 1978, BROWN appeared in United
States District Court, Portland, Oregon, and was sentenced
to custody of the United States Attorney General for a '
period of twenty-five years for bank robbery and five years
for firearms violation. BROWN was immediately transported
to Federal Correctional Facilities at Pleasanton, California.

This investigation was predicated upon receipt ofinformation from the King County Police Department, Seattle,
Washington, advising that the revolutionary group, The George

Washington, on October 15, 1977, and that a communique from
the GJB had been received on October 18, 1977.

DESCRIPTION or LOCATION '
The B.B.C. Dodge Company is located at 14650 First
Avenue South, Burien, Washington. The dealership consists
of an automobile storage lot, which is fenced with chain link
fencing, an auto sales lot and several
sales of the business.

chain link fence surrounding the auto storage lot.
' EXPLOSIVE DEVICE
The improvised explosive devices ED! are described
as combination pipe bomb/incendiary bombs. there were three
separate IEDs. The pipes are described as one and onehalf
inch by five inch pieces of galvanized pipe with galvanized
end caps, which werefilled with an explosive power and wired
in parallel with westclox travel alarm clocks and Eveready
brand nine volt alkaline battery. The pipes were attached
to one gallon glass jugs containing a flamable liquid. The
devices were placed on either the hood or trunk of automobiles.
CHRONOLOGY OF EVENTS
At approximately 11:11 p.m., on October 15, 1977,
an unknown subject detonated three improvided explosive devices
at B.B.C. Dodge Company, 14650 First_Avenue Sou , Burien,Washington, causing approximately $3,000 worth 3 damage to
ten motor vehicles. No warning call preceeded the bombing.
No injuries occurred. Following the bombing, the King County
Police Department conducted a crime scene investigation and
obtained evidence at the scene. The King County Police
Department subsequently prepared a crime scene and follow-up
investigative report.

The aforementioned communique which was received by
the Automobile Machinists Union was an original typewritten
page and contained a rolled fingerprint and the notation, "JOHN
W. SHERMAN's right thumbprint". The fingerprint has been
positively identified as the right thumb print of JOHN WILLIAM
SHERMAN, Federal fugitive and member of the George Jackson
Brigade. A laboratory report reflecting this identification
is included in this report.
