Miss Buck said her desire to
see Negro-Oriental children
brought here for adoption
stemmed from the fact that in
Japan and Korea these chil-
dren, sired by American sol-
diers, are subject to severe
prejudices, The position taken
by many social welfare author-
ities that it is better _to leave
war orphans "in their own
countries," does not annly here.
Miss Buck explained.
What is their own coun-
try? " she asked. Their fathers
are Americans. The children
are as much American as Ko-
rean or Japanese. and they will
have a better chance for a nor-
mal life her; in homes where
they are welcome, than they
ywould in the poverty and prej-
udices of their mothers".ooun-

Recentely I read inthe Phila Inquire some articles which made me wonder,
what some of our citizens and goverment officials think of and do. First the
idea of Mrs Pearl Buck to feed the starving Chinese, and our government
giving Ethiopia a large ship and awarding to the paper spending three Million
of tax payers Money to fix it up. Our goverment is handing Money to practically
every ruler who asks for it. I am a World I veteran, having nine sons who
were in World War H and Korea. One a pilot in the ferry command who flew
all over the world and was killed allong with another pilot at Hyattsville, Md,
as a result of what I beleived to be sabotage on the plane, another son was
seriously wounded three times in Korea. I wrote you conceming the plane
crash to you. You took the matter up with the air force and no more crashes .
occured. This was in 1945. I believe in doing so you saved the lives of other
fliers by doing so. I write for a local county paper and the Pearl Buck request
got under my skin, so I wrote the enclosed article. I have the greatest
respect for you and your wonderful organization. One of your men who was
stationed at State College a few years ago called on me regarding an army _
deserter. I told him where he could find him in another county. He got his
man. -_
I am a retired Man, having a small buissness, in years gone
by. If I can ever be of any assistance, in reference to any Information or
otherwise, I will be glad to!oblige.

indicating that she has been in contact with the Chinese

be admitted to the U. N. and that lines of communication
be opened by all governments to prevent war.
Philadelphia plans no further investigation

related that 36 American authors, including Pearl Buck, demanded
that President Roosevelt rebuke the Nazi reign of terror by severing
trade relations with Nazi Germany.

captioned "78 Writers Ask Lifting of Embargo". The article revealed
4 that 78 American writers, including Pearl Buck, had issued an appeal

Roosevelt to appoint a commission of inquiry to investigate the OdellWaller case appeared in a full-page advertisement in the "Washington
Star" placed there by the WDL. Quoting Pearl Buck's statement that
Waller "has become a personification of all to whom democracy is deniedin our country? the petitioners told the President that "your inter-
vention will help restore the badly shaken faith of our Negro minority
in American democracy". V
This document indicated that Odell Waller was convicted of
murder and was electrocuted on 7/2/H2 at the State Prison in Richmond,Va.
