* The December 2, 1956, issue of "The New York T1 es" carried san article entitled "Asia Society Gets Rockefeller Aid," which stated thatJohn D. Rockefeller, III, announced yesterday the formation of the Asia~Society, an organization to stimulate knowledge and understanding betweenthe United States and the countre s of Asia. Hr. Rockefeller, presidentof the new group; Dr. Grayson L. Kirk, president of Columbia Universityis chairman of the board of trustees; and Paul C. Sherbert, who returnedrecently from a 5-year assignment as United States Consul and publicaffairs officer in India, has been chosen as executive director. TheSociety will work closely with such organizations as the China Institute,the Japan Society and other groups having programs related to Asia

JAPAN SOCIETY

Dear Sir:
The Asia Society is making a survey of slide resources
dealing with Asia. This survey, which is one of the Society's
activities to further opportunities for Asian studies in Ameri-
can education, will cover the countries between and including
Afghanistan and Japan. The survey will help to determine the
feasibility of establishing a central clearinghouse of slides
on Asia; such a clearinghouse, which might include reproduction
and distribution facilities and a repository and index of
available slides, would be intended to serve you and others
wishing to make use of it, particularly as a resource for
teaching.
We believe that you may have a collection of slides on
Asia and should appreciate greatly your filling out the en-
closed questionnaire and returning it to us in the accompanying
postage-paid envelope. If you do not have any slides dealing
with Asia, please fill out the first and last items on the
questionnaire and return it so that we may adjust our records.
we should also welcome any comments which you may have on
the possible usefulness of a slide clearinghouse to you in
your teaching or other professional activities; these comments
may be added on the back of the questionnaire. '
This questionnaire is being sent to lists of individuals
and organizations having professional and academic interests
in Asia. If you know of others who may have slide collections
and will let us have their names and addresses, we should
like to send them questionnaires in order to make this survey
as complete as possible. Or, if you prefer and will let us
know how many questionnaires you can use, we will send addi
tional copies directly to you for distribution to colleagues
and others with slide materials on Asia.
We hope that you will take just the few minutes needed
