He had expressedhimself pnhlicly as critical oi the House Committee on Un-American Activities.He participated as a fund raiser and was a member oi a group who ew to Washingtonto protest the action oi the House Committee on Un-American Activities against the"Hollywood Ten. A program for a dinner, which was held on March 23,1942, and which was sponsored by the United American SpanishAid Committee, listed the names of Mr. and Mrs. Danny Kaye.The United American Spanish Aid Comittee has been designated
pursuant to Executive Order 10450.
An article published in the newspaper "PM" on 92July 15, 1945, quoted Sylvia Fine, wife of Danny Kaye, as A/Q-Qe stating that Danny Kaye was Treasurer of the Hollywood Section _ gof the Independent Citizens Committee of the Arts, Sciences f '_l57 Z and Professions and that Sylvia Fine was an Executive Board member. Mr. and Mrs. Danny Kaye
The IBI conducted a limited Selective Serice investi-gationdgpncerning Danny:§§ye, known also as Daniel aye and
David Kaminsk in August, 1944. This investigation was predi-
cafed upon receipt of information from two sources who alleged
that Danny Kaye, the well-known stage comedian, simulated acondition which caused him to be rejected for
service under the Selective Service Act. ~
Our inquiry developed the Jfact that

in the latter part of October, . The Induction Station
wthvritiesordered him for observation to a military hospital. After three
days of observation in the military hospital, Army doctors advised
that Kaye was unfit for military duty.
The facts of that investigation were presented to the
United States Attorney in the Eastern District of New York who '
declined prosecution.
Subsequent information appearing in our files reveals
that Kaye was involved in various activities of several communist
front groups. He had appeared before the American Youth for
Democracy, an organization which has been designated pursuant
to Executive Order 10450. He had expressed himself publicly as
critical of the House Comittee on UnAmerican Activities. He
participated as a fund raiser and was a member of a group which
flew to Washington to protest the action of the House Committee
on Un-American Activities against the Hollywood Ten. The
Hollywood Ten" consisted of a group of actors and writers who
were cited by a Congressional committee as being subversive and/or
members of the Comunist Party.

emp oyed as an entertainer singer at the Ascot Restaurant,
l3th near E Street, Washington,.D.Qi_.She said that one night
approximately at 10:30 p.m. during her engagement she met a
patron of the club who identified himself as MIKE VINICH of
Jackson, Wyoming. Between her numbers, she had several drinks
with him and he told her, during conversation, that he was in
Washington as a result Qf being a member of the PT-109 crew '
which President JOHN F. KENNEDY had during World War II in
the Pacific. VINICH claimed to be in Washington, D.C., for
a reunion of this group. She stated VINICH, at the time she
met him, had been drinking, although he did not appear in+ H
toxicated and his speech was normal.- She stated she had sev-
eral drinks with him, and he left the restaurant about one
and one-half hours after he came in.
She said that during the time she was talking with
him in the Ascot Restaurant, he stated President KENNEDY was
going to be shot. She said that she was amazed at this and
asked him how he knew this. He did not explain the statement
any further, but repeated that President KENNEDY would be shot.
She also advised that she was_friendly with him because he told92!- her that he was the brother of the natiogally;known comedian. DANN!!§AYE. She stated she took_his story about being DANNY
KAYE's brother at face value_because in her mind he did re-
- semble KAYE

She stated that while in the club, she recalledféthat the manager of the Ascot, Mr.fZUPALUPA, ..a=....."..M;:4--lgcas," and her accompanist, ANITA!B?AIN, had some conver-

She said that Mr. VINICH returned-the next~evening
. early and stayed until closing time, approximately 12:30.
She had several drinks with him between numbers the second
night, and when it was time for her to go home for the night
it was raining out and she offered him a ride to his hotel
in her automobile. She said that Mr. VINICH drank a consider-
able amount of liquor that night and his speech became thickened
towards the end of the evening. S if

After leaving the Ascot Restaurant, they went to
Britta Restaurant in the 1200 block of M Street near the ~
Tivoli Restaurant to have breakfast. They had breakfast and
left there at approximately 1:30 to 2:00 a.m., and she dropped
him off near his hotel in the vicinity of 13th and D or E "
Street. She said he was reluctant to leave the automobile,
but he appeared to be quite intoxicated and she wanted to
get away from him. ' . -
She said that she urute his name down on a match
book the first night when he told her he was fro Jackson,_
Wyoming._ The next evening he told her he lived at 1835
Harouposa, Casper, Wyoming.
