AUSA TAYLOR also stated that be hoped to be able to use '1
a transcript of the testimony of the LIiZO case in connection with
the revocation hearing for COLLIE LEROY IILKINS. AUSA TAYLOR stated
the possibility existed that this transcript might not be accepted
and, therefore, in order to revoke the probation of COLLIE LEROY
WILKINS it might be necessary that the testimony of GARY THOMAS ROIE
be offered in person at this hearing. It was pointed out to AUSA
TAYLOR that unless absolutely mandatory the presence of ROWE in the
city of Birmingham could create unusual security problems insofar
as insuring the safety of the informant. AUSA TAYLOR stated he
recognized this and preferred not having to use the informant it
at all possible. He did, however, indicate he wanted to point this _
possibility out to the Bureau in the event the revocation hearing _'
is scheduled in the near future. _ _
hh TEYLGR stated that each though the Department might be I
willing to proceed on an immediate basis insofar as the Probation
hearing, he wished to point out the possibility that it could have
some bearing on the scheduled arraignment in Hontgomery. AUSA TAYLOR
also stated that regardless of the Department's wishes the ultimate I
decision as to whether or not to proceed against COLLIE LEROY WILKINS
rested with the Federal Judge. TAYLOR also stated the maximum I
sentence which could be hoped for was only 1 year and 1 day. He was;
of the opinion that it uauld be advantageous, if at all possible, I
to revoke the probation of COLLIE LEROY EILKIHS and have his serve I
at least the 1 year and 1 day sentence. AUSA TAYLOR stated that his§
primary purpose in making the telephone call was to insure that the I
FBI knew of the plans and contemplated action that night be taken

Mobile advised that AAG Doar and Department Attorney Turner
on ll/23/65 stated that on the morning of ll/29/65 when they ,
¢ received the Jury list that*they will want an immediate dheck
- made oi Jury members on the list. Iobile said Doar indicated
a mere_indices check would not suffice and that there would only
be approximately 3 hour's time within which to conduct the checks
before the Jury will be selected for the list. This matter was
discussed with Mr. Doar in Washington, D. C., on ll/24/65.
Mr, Boar stated that he had not wished to indicatesthat he deisred
any actual investigation into the background oi the members of the

EL stated that he would estimate the timethey were etopped as between 8:30 p.m. and 9:00 p.n. on'arch 25, 1965. He did not take any special notice atany passing vehicles and cannot identity any such vehicleby description, mike, or model. He is sure that sometraiiic passed or at least assumes that some passed at thattime as there were certainly other automobile on the
road.
He recalls a News car, believed to he from .ABC News, perked near the State Trooper's oer eltheeghdid not notice any driver. He also observed another **# vehicle parked which probably was stopped to a similarviolation. This vehicle, make and model unknown, lettbefore they did. He is also or the opinion that a vehicleiollowing theirs was subsequently stopped, also make andmodel not noted. In view oi this, he was oi the opinionat iiret it was e State Police road block and that theywere stopping all traiiic to eeleeg however, when advisedof the speeding charge, he realized it was a radar

United Klaus was formed as a result of a split in U.S.
Klaus, Knights of the Ku Klux Klan, Inc. According to
the source, the split resulted from a leadership dispute
and United Klaus has the same aims and objectives as the
parent-group. These are the promotion of Americanism,
white supremacy, and segregation of the races.
' The first source and a second source advised
in July, 1951, that United Klaus, Knights of the Eu Klux
Klan of America, Inc., merged with Alabama Knights, Knights
of the Ku Klux Klan. The merged organization established
headquarters in Suite 401, the Alston Building, Tuscaloosa,
Alabama. The organization is directed by Robert Shelton,
imperial iizard, and is the dominant Klan group in the '
South, with units in several Southern states.!

Prattville, Alabama, on October 22, 1961, the U. S. Klaus,
Knights of the Ku Klux Klan, merged with the United Klaus
-of America, Inc., Knights of the Ku Klux Klan. ._-
- Third source advised on August 4, 1965, that the
United Klaus of America, Inc., Knights oi the Eu Klu: Klan,
is currently an active organization, with Klaverns in
several Southern states. This source said that Robert
I. Shelton is the Imperial lizard of this organization,
and<was last elected to this position on September 5, 1964,
a 'a National Klouvocatiou in Birmingham, Alabama. Source Q
