A source advised on October 25, 1963, that in
December, 1960, a group was organized at Shreveport,
Louisiana, known as the Original Knights of the Ku Klux
Klan OKKKK!. The purpose of this organization was to
promote Americanism, white supremacy, and the maintaining
of segregation.
This source further advised on October 25, 1963
that the OKKKK continues to be active and that the aims
and purposes continue to be the same.

Inspector_who is handling the spec
investigations at Birmingham regarding the six bombing devices
found on March 21-22, 1965, and the murder of Mrs. Viola Liuzzo92 on March 25, 1965, discuss ed with me today the need for additional
manpower. In addition to the leads in the Liuzzo case to develop
corroborating data concerning the informants story and to establish
t e a tivities of the subjects prior to and subsequent to the murder, F vigorously pursuing the leads to identify the persons
responsible for the bombing devices. He is rurining out the s
of the clocks used as timing devices, the dynamite caps and '
contemplates interviewing 180 emplo ees of the mine from which itis believed the dynamite was stolen. is also very alert
to develop any indication that these two c e tied into the
bombing of the Sixteenth Street Baptist Church in September, 1963.
Additionally, the Bureau instructe_,to have all Klansmen
and members of hate groups interviewed for the purpose of developing
any hiiormation showing the activities oi members of such groups in
violence in the past, including the cases under investigation, and any
contemplated violence or demonstrations opposing the civil rights
E movement. It is noted that about 45 automobiles from the Birmingham
Z Bessemer area took part in the Ku Klux Klan demonstration in I"
f Montgomery on March 21, 1965, thus showing active participation-_-,

RE: GREENBOMB AND RELATED CASES
I talked to Inspector Sullivan at Selma, Alabama, bearing
in mind that we had sent Agents in to Selma on special assignment to
assist in covering the march from Selma to Montgomery on March 21-25
1965. Sullivan has a number of special matters under investigation
including the shooting of Jimmy Jackson by a state trooper on
February 18, 1965, at Marion; the march at Selma on March 7, 1965,
where troopers and the sheriff's posse used tear gas and clubs to
disperse the march; the killing of Reverend Rebb on March 9, 1965;
the dispersal of demonstrators at Montgomery by unnecessary force
on March 16, 1965; leads from the murder of Mrs. Liuzzo on
March 25, 1965; and the coverage of continuing demonstrations at
the Selma area. Sullivan said these investigations are coming along
well, he is getting results down in report form and while there is
considerable additional investigation in some of these cases, he is
now at the point where he can start releasing men. He has a total
of 70 men, approximately 50 of whom are on special assignment. He
an release 30 of these men starting Monday morning, March 29, 1965.

I told both Inspecto_ and Inspector Sullivan
that the Department is thinking in terms o an early Grand Jury and
a Departmental Attorney is going down to Montgomery this weekend
to lay the groundwork. The Department is interested in the cases we
are investigating and also the activities of the Kn Klux Klan and other
hate groups. I told them that we do not want incomplete investigative
results furnished to the attorneys; that we want the investigations
reduced to report form and sent into the Bureau and thereafter we
will clear these reports for delivery to the attorneys at the scene.
For this reason, it is essential that the investigations be completed
promptly and reduced to report form promptly.
