"ailing" since 1961, when he suffered a physical breakdown while

The Wednesday, July 21, 1976 issue of the "Daily
World", on page 6, contained an article entitled "To the UN:
Declare Paul Robeson birth date Day of International Peace
and Friendship". The article, datelined "Toronto", reflected,
in part, that the Paul Robeson Commemorative Committee PRCC!,
recently formed in Toronto, has called upon the Secretary Genr
eral of the United Nations, Kurt Naldheim, to place before the
United Nations the proposal that the birthdate of Paul Robeson
April 9!, be officially proclaimed as "the Paul Robeson day of
International Peace and Friendship"-

accomplishment. What a rare instrument was his voice.
There are so few like his that it is a shame we squelched
it. Truly, he was an early black leader and paid a heaprice for Iis convictions. Can we not now take off thev{i///
and let his greatness rise? _
His son says that he never suffered any bitterness or
hatred about what happened to him because he was all * -
about LOVE. And the velbet voice. What a shame his career
was not allowed to flower so that we would have more of his
music recorded. .
Last year we entertained a. man from Holland who was bent

father's birthday, I was pleased to hear of an effort to
