Carmine Galante Federal1Bureau of Investigation
Number l19h95 was born as Camillpj§alante, February 21,
1910, in New York City. He reportedly resides at 27h
Mercy Avenue, Brooklyn, New York, and claimed to own
and operate the Rosina Costume Company, 1515 70th
Street, Brooklyn, ew York. He is also allegedly
connected with the Abco Vending Company, 5012
Palisades Avenue, West New York, New Jersey. He is
described as 5'5", 160 pounds, bald with orown
graying hair.
Galante has numerous arrests dating to 1926
for robbery and aesult. He was the prime subject in the
murder of Carlos Tresca in New York City in 19h}. He
is known to carry firearms and to have shot a police-
man ho was attempting to apprehend him. He has
served approximately 10 years in Sing Sing Prison,
Yew York. In view of his past record, HE SHOULD BE
CONSIDERED AnAED AED EXTREMELY DANGEhOUS.
Galante was reported in attendance at the
Apalachin, New York home of Joseph Barbara on
November lh, 1957, but escaped prior to apprehension
of the others by New York State Police. Current press
publicity claims that he may have gone to Miami, Florida,
Havana, Cuba, and possibly on to Italy. A subpoena has
been issued for Galante to appear before the bpecial
Federal Grand Jury on January 9, 1956, and has not been

reflected that when the subject was arrested for attempted
robbery in 1930 he was employed at the O'Brien Fish Company,
105 South Street, New York City, as a sorter. He was paroled
on January*l8, 1930, to the Catholic Society. In 1939 the 1
subject was employed at the Lubin Artificial Flower Company,
located at 270 West Broadway, New York City. He was also
employed by this concern from 1923 to 1920.
On February 3, ltl, the parole records reflected

the premises located at 27H Marcy Avenue, rooklyn. These
premises were located in block number 2206, lot number 32,
and the tax records reflected that they were in the name of
MARULLI with a land valuation of $2,550 and improvements
'valued at $14,000. It was described as a 3 story residence.
The records further reflected that on January 16, 1956, these
premises were sold by SALVATORE and ANTONIA MANERI to ANGELINA
MARULLI and MAE LEGGIO. The deed on file of this transaction
reflected that ANGELINA MARULLI had a 2/3 undivided interestand MAE LEGGIO owned a 1/9 undivided interest. The East New
York Savings Bank held a ¢¬,660 mortgage dated October l,
1955. The attorney for this transaion was listed as EDWARD

as being March 15, l9N5, but this court order caused his
release on December 21, 1944 with no parole supervision,

On September 13, l9MO, FRLNK GAROFALO was T
issued New York City pistol permit #23745, and gave his
home address as 339 East 68th Street, New York City, rather
than 339 East 58th Street, the actual residence. GAROFALO
gave his occupation as a partner in the firm of M & G Coat
Company, 178 McK1bbins Street, Brooklyn, New York. GAROFALO
purchased a .32 caliber Smith & Wesson, Serial H4556#, on
September 20, 1940, from FRANK LAVA, 6 Centre Street, New
York City. GAROFALO stated that he needed the revolver
-for protection in carrying large sums of money for payrolls.
GAROFALO indicated NICHOLAS MARRONE, 178 McKibbins Street,
Brooklyn, as his partner, and named as character references
FRANK GIARANITA, 9H Wilson Avenue, Brooklyn; ANTHONY RUSSO,
R & R Cloak Company, N7 Thames Street, Brooklyn, and JOHN
CREMNDO, 22 Boerum Street, Brooklyn, as a reference on
a subsequent application.
GAROFALO renewed the license in l9H1, 1942,
and 19#3. On April 19, 1923, the license was cancelled
by a letter from Detective GEORGE DUNPHY, Shield 1503,
and Assistant District Attorney GRUMT, as GAROFALO was
no longer in business. '

of a JCE LANZINI, proprietor of the Abco'Vending
Machine Service in west New York, and had gone upstateat JOE's request to try to get "ore of his salesmen '
out of Jail.
"Earlier he admitted they had previously
seen most1ycharacters" hanging around the Abco
premises in West New York, which he admitted visiting
frequently. He related how Sergeant CROSWELL stopped
his intercession attempts by showing him GALANTE's
extensive criminal record. He then said the bantering
between himself and Sergeant CBOSHELL began."

"JOSEPH HARRISON, NJLEC Chairman, ended the
two-day public hearings in the Jersey aspects of the
gangland meeting at Apalnchin, New York. He said he
would send transcripts of testimony to prosecutors
in both states for possible perjury investigaion."
In the "New York Times" edition of January 10
1958, an article appeared describing the testimony
of JOHN T. CUSACK, District Supervisor of the Federal
Bureau of Narcotics. Mr. CUSACK testified as to his
opinions regarding the reason for the meeting at
Apalachin, New York on November 1%, 1957. He also
offered a theory for the recent murder of ALBERT
ANASTASIA in New York and named two men suspected

slayer of TRESCA and stated that GALANTE was now
engaged in a campaign to control narcotics, gambling
and other rackets in Brooklyn, New York. These
activities were receiving the attention of District
Attorney EDWARD S. SILVER. FRANK GAROFALO was listed
as the one who had ordered TRESCA's killing.
In.the "Herald Tribune edition of
January 1O, 1958, CUSACK was quoted as saying,
FRANK GAROFALO is mentioned in the Bureau of
Narcotics files in association with the late WILLY
MORETTI and the late ABRAHAM DAVIDIAN, a California
mobster believed to have been assassinated in l9#9

In the New York Herald Tribune edition
of January 15, 195U_ an article appeared_stating
that Attorney General GORVER C. RICHMAN, JR., of
New Jersey had appointed Deputy Attorney General
CHARLES JOELSEN to conduct an investigation of the
west New York Police Department. The appointment
cf Mr. JOELSEN, who is also Acting Prosecutor of
Passaic County, New Jersey, came after Democratic
opposition killed a legislative bid by Republicans

great animosity between the two.
TRE3CA was invited to a dinner at the
Manhattan Club on September 10, 19b2, and was assured
that POPE would not be there. TREsCA, on arrival,
observed FRANK GAROFALO at this dinner and remarked,
not only a Fascist but also a gangster, referring to
GAROFALO, who wasPOPE's henchmen and bodyguard.
