Rogues halt losing skid at four games By Mail Tribune staff Jul 11, 2019 07:58 PM A A ALAMEDA, Calif. — The Medford Rogues snapped a four-game losing streak with a 9-1 thrashing of the California Bees in the second game of a Golden State Collegiate Baseball League doubleheader Thursday at College of Alameda. California won the first game, 3-2, in 10 innings. The Rogues are now 27-12, and the Bees are 8-27. In Game 2, Tre’Von Dorsey and Maxx Mahon each hit solo home runs in the fifth inning to highlight the victory. It was Mahon’s seventh of the year; he was 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Devin Canty earlier slugged a run-scoring triple for the Rogues. Central Point’s Sebasten Boivin was the starting pitcher, allowing six hits and the run, which was earned. He went five innings. In Game 1, Medford lost it in the bottom of the 10th when the Bees’ Ben Tsui doubled and Josh Levy singled, leaving runners at third and first. After Rogues pitcher Brice Foster intentionally walked Eric Mitchell to load the bases, Foster hit Alec White to force in the winning run. The Rogues managed only five hits. Omar Ortiz scored Tre’Von Dorsey with a sacrifice fly in the fourth. In the fifth, Mahon doubled down the third-base line for the team’s first hit off Justice Naraghi, and Mahon wound up scoring on a Bees error. Rogues starter Gilbert Romero pitched five innings, allowed six hits, two runs and struck out four while issuing two walks. Medford visits the South Bay Storm Friday and Saturday before returning home for a Tuesday nonleague game against Northwest Star Academy. Cody Borraggine was 2-for-2 with three runs and an RBI to pace the Mavericks (19-7). Gavin Schmidt was 2-for-2, drove in two runs and scored one, and AJ Balsiger was 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run. Golf PGA JUNIOR NATIONAL: At Hartford, Conn., Medford’s Baylee Hammericksen missed the cut in the prestigious tournament at Keney Park Golf Course. Hammericksen, a two-time state champion for St. Mary’s, shot rounds of 76 on both Tuesday and Wednesday on the par-70 course, missing the cut by nine shots in the field of 144 players from around the world. The tournament ends today. Hammericksen qualified for the championship by placing second in the Pacific Northwest Girls Junior PGA last month at The Home Course in DuPont, Washington. There she shot a second-round 4-under 69 and placed second by one shot to Cassie Kim, of Yakima, Washington. Hammericksen’s first-round score in the PNW was 73. Rogues.png
