October 25. 2014 6:14PM Man killed by fallen tree Saturday A 23-year-old man was killed at 2:36 a.m. Saturday when high winds toppled a tree on the tent where he was sleeping. The man, identified by Medford police as Joseph T. Jones , was sleeping in a transient camp off the Bear Creek Greenway just north of Bear Creek Park. Two people who were camping nearby alerted police, who found Jones inside. Jones was pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel, police said in a news release. The area where Jones was killed had just been cleared of transients, so Jones must have set up camp there recently, said police, who were working to notify next of kin.
