Royals advance into championship TUMWATER, Wash. -- Mike Newmann went 6-for-8 with three doubles and two triples to lead North Jackson to wins over Central, 11-4, and Tumwater, 12-5, propelling the Royals into today's Tumwater Invitational championship. Teammates Nick Newmann and Charlie Jackson picked up three hits each in the second game, while Justin Whisenhunt and Jake Kleker contributed two hits apiece. The Royals (24-6) look for their 12th straight win in today's 1 p.m. finale. Senior Babe Ruth PHOENIX-TALENT 8-11, ETNA 0-7 -- At Talent, Travis Dunlap went 6-for-6 on the day and was the winning pitcher in the second game as Phoenix-Talent swept a Senior Babe Ruth doubleheader from Etna, Calif. Chase Tester was masterful on the mound in the opener, firing a two-hit shutout with nine strikeouts and no walks. Phoenix-Talent erupted for five runs in the second inning of the first game. David Wolford, Cody Rohmbach and Brian Loper singled to load the bases and then Kyle Kaufman cracked a three-run double off the fence in left field. Tester followed with another double, scoring Kaufman, and Dunlap capped the inning with an RBI single. In the second game, Phoenix-Talent scored in all but one inning as it boosted its season record to 13-3. GRANTS PASS 4-5, ASHLAND 3-10 -- At Ashland, Bill Rowe smacked a three-run home run in the first inning as Ashland rebounded to take the second game of a Senior Babe Ruth doubleheader at Southern Oregon University. Pitcher Jayson Schroeder went six innings, striking out five and scattering six hits for the win. Grants Pass scored a run in the top of the sixth to win the opener. Blane Newfield had five hits and Nick Ehlers four on the day for Ashland.
