Accidental shooting leads to charges

A Sunday afternoon shooting in Medford has been deemed accidental following a police investigation, though officers still arrested a man they believed pulled the trigger.  Medford police reported on the agency's Facebook page that 24-year-old Daniel Delgado was lodged in the Jackson County Jail on charges of third-degree assault and reckless endangerment. He is no longer listed in the jail.  An investigation showed Delgado and the gunshot victim, a 30-year-old man, were sitting in a truck parked in front of a house in the 300 block of Chestnut Avenue. Delgado reportedly was showing off a 9mm handgun and fired it twice. One of the shots hit the man by accident.  "Both subjects were drinking and intoxicated as they listened to music," the police Facebook post reads. "The suspect discharged the gun through the roof of the truck, and then almost immediately again toward the victim, striking him in the leg." The 30-year-old man was treated for his injury and released. "We are confident this is a combination of intoxication and reckless handling of a loaded firearm," police said.
