Oregon Road Conditions & Cams Email Story to a Friend October 24, 2005 Clemens confirmed to be lost for the season EUGENE — University of Oregon senior quarterback Kellen Clemens will undergo surgery this morning to repair damage from his fractured left ankle suffered in Saturday’s 28-21 win at Arizona that will end a collegiate career that will rank him among the best in school history. The extent of Clemens’ injury was confirmed by X-rays Sunday morning, with a full recovery anticipated to take from three to six months. The standout from Burns completes his Oregon career as the program’s most accurate quarterback ever, establishing a school record with a career completion percentage of 60.9 percent. In addition, his 61 career touchdown passes falls only one shy of Danny O’Neil’s school record of 62 from 1991-94. Through eight games, Clemens leads the Pacific-10 Conference and ranks fifth in the country in total offense (329.3 avg.) while rating 17th nationally in passing efficiency. He was one of seven quarterbacks in the country to be selected a finalist for the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award a week ago, presented annually to the nation’s top senior collegiate quarterback. Only four quarterbacks in the country had accumulated longer active consecutive strings as a starter than Clemens’ 32 starts. He will be replaced by sophomore Dennis Dixon, who is expected to earn his first collegiate start when the Ducks return to action Nov. 5 against Cal.
