Roseburg stays perfect after edging Ashland ROSEBURG � The Roseburg High volleyball team didn�t clinch the Southern Oregon Conference volleyball title Thursday. But the Indians sure took a big step. Junior middle Kristen Bitter generated 13 kills and four blocks, senior middle Shannon Burmeister supplied 12 kills and two blocks and senior outside hitter Katie Kahn added 11 kills as the No. 5-ranked Indians edged Ashland 15-7, 13-15, 15-12 at Stewart Robertson Gymnasium. The Grizzlies (11-6, 7-3 SOC) hung tough throughout, but Roseburg broke away from a 12-12 deadlock in Game 3 to win its 22nd match in 24 outings this season. Senior outside hitter Taylor Jones clinched the match when she smashed a line drive that hit the face of an Ashland player and fell to the court. Setter Mary Pat Junkin added 40 assists, including 21 in Game 3, and defensive specialist Mary Hooper had 25 digs. CRATER 12-15-15, GRANTS PASS 15-11-1 � At Grants Pass, after staving off elimination with a Game 2 win, Crater rolled in Game 3 to upend the Cavers. Erin Kinney had 10 kills and Nichollette LeBel added eight for the Comets, who chipped away to break a 10-all tie in Game 2 and then managed a 10-0 and 14-0 lead in the pivotal third game. Setter Sarah Yager had 25 assists and two solo blocks for Crater (9-6, 6-3 SOC). EAGLE POINT 15-15, KLAMATH UNION 6-7 � At Klamath Falls, Tara Stewart and Dani Rouhier each had 11 kills as Eagle Point bounced back from a tough loss on Tuesday with a win. The Eagles (10-8, 4-6 SOC) fell in a three-set marathon to Crater, 12-15, 15-11, 18-20 on Tuesday.
