Oregon Tech downs foul-plagued SOU Raider roundup KLAMATH FALLS -- The Southern Oregon University men's basketball team hung with eighth-ranked Oregon Tech Saturday night but couldn't overcome a 28 foul shot differential in a 97-84 Cascade Conference loss.   Oregon Tech ventured to the charity stripe 47 times, connecting on 39, compared to just 14-of-19 by the Raiders.   SOU also lost starting point guard Obie Strickler and his 16 points along with James Wightman to fouls as Oregon Tech made them pay with a 26-of-30 second half effort at the line.   The Raiders trailed just 41-34 at the break despite shooting only 36 percent from the field and 1-of-11 from the 3-point line.   Southern Oregon came out blazing from the field after the intermission, hitting 20-of-32 but Oregon Tech remained steady, shooting nearly 50 percent.   The Raiders struggled to distribute the ball with only 13 assists and were outrebounded 41-32.   Tom Chipps and Barron Lacey led Southern Oregon (3-13, 0-5 Cascade) with 19 points apiece while Shavon Haynes pulled down seven rebounds and dished out four assists.   Erich Lais paced Oregon Tech (15-3, 5-1) with 20 points, 10 coming from the foul line, and Kevin Baker added 15 along with a game-high eight rebounds. A--1943 Wrestling CENTRAL WASHINGTON OPEN -- At Ellensburg, Wash., Southern Oregon advanced two wrestlers into the finals and qualified three others for the NAIA nationals at the 21st annual wrestling tournament.   Southern Oregon placed third in the 12-team field with 39 points. Pacific and Portland State tied for the team title with 66 points.   "It was an OK performance team-wise," Southern Oregon coach Mike Ritchey said. "We were missing some guys. The main thing was to go up there and get some guys qualified for nationals, and we did that."   Southern Oregon's top finishers were Ryan Schumann (174) and Dan Sturgell (184), who lost in the finals.   More importantly, the Raiders qualified Brad Gray (197), Nolan Harris (125) and Chris Huntley (157) for the NAIA national tournament by placing fourth in the event.   A top four finish in the tournament earned the wrestlers berths in the NAIA nationals.   Southern Oregon's next action is a home dual against NCAA Division I Pac-10 Cal-State Fullerton at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at McNeal Pavilion.
