Discounted, energy-efficient heat pumps available Wednesday Feb 15, 2017 at 1:25 PM Feb 15, 2017 at 1:25 PM Rogue Valley residents can learn about and purchase discounted ductless heat pump systems as part of a community-based energy efficiency campaign called Energize Rogue. Ductless heat pumps use 25 to 50 percent less energy than traditional electric heating systems, heat spaces more evenly and provide air conditioning in summer. Homeowners and small businesses interested in the Energize Rogue group purchase should attend one of several upcoming workshops:  Talent Community Center: 6 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 16, 104 E. Main St., Talent; Ashland Library: 6 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 14, 410 Siskiyou Blvd., Ashland; Central Point Library: 6 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 11, 116 S. Third St., Central Point. Residents and businesses in Jackson and Josephine counties are eligible for the discount. Attendees should register in advance online at www.energizerogue.org. Energize Rogue is a group purchase program that reduces the regular price of a ductless system, simplifies the installation process for customers, and provides guidance on incentives and financing. The nonprofits Rogue Climate and Northwest SEED have teamed up coordinate the project. The project is funded by a USDA Rural Business Development Grant. Customers of Pacific Power and city of Ashland Municipal Utility are also eligible for rebates, if upgrading from another electric heating system. Tax credits and other incentives also help make the installations affordable. Ductless heat pumps have at least one head unit indoors, usually placed high on the wall, a compressor located outside, and a refrigerant line connecting them. These systems are often easily installed within a day because there is no ductwork needed.
